Eight hours a night, against your face.

Cotton was designed to absorb — it's what makes towels work. It's also why a cotton pillowcase draws moisture and product off your skin overnight, and drags on your hair every time you move.

Silk does neither. It's far less absorbent, and it has a much lower friction coefficient against hair, so there's less mechanical stress across a night's sleep. Less drag means fewer tangles and less breakage. Less absorbency means your moisturiser is still doing its job at 3am.

That's the whole mechanism. It isn't complicated, and it doesn't need to be.

Why 22-momme

Momme measures how much silk you're actually getting — the weight of the fabric per unit area. Most silk pillowcases are 16 or 19-momme, and a good number are polyester satin sold as silk. Ours is 22-momme, roughly a third heavier than the standard: denser in the hand, heavier in the drape, and it holds up through washing rather than thinning out over a year.

Why two is better than one

Silk wants washing every week or two. While one's in the wash you're back on cotton — so a second means the bed is always covered.

Specifications

  • 22-momme mulberry silk, both sides
  • Grade 6A — the longest, most uniform fibre produced
  • OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified — tested for harmful substances
  • Treated with silver ions, which keeps it fresher between washes
  • Hidden zipper closure, so the pillow stays put
  • Standard/queen: 48cm × 74cm
  • Four colourways: Beige, Silver, Natural White, Charcoal
  • Designed and owned in Australia. Spun, woven and sewn in China.

Care

Cool machine wash on gentle, inside a mesh bag, with a pH-neutral detergent. Hang to dry out of direct sun. No bleach, no fabric softener, no tumble dryer, no dry cleaning. Iron on low if you must. Every two weeks is plenty.

What silk doesn't do

It doesn't prevent wrinkles, treat acne or replace skincare routines. It does however change what skin and hair spend 8 hours against.

We'd rather tell you that than sell you something we can't stand behind.

100 nights to change your mind

Sleep on it for 100 nights. If you don't love it, send it back for a full refund. This sits on top of your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

How It Works

Two properties, both to do with the structure of the fibre.

Friction. Cotton is spun from short staple fibres, twisted into yarn — the surface is textured, and hair catches on it. Silk is a continuous filament, smooth along its whole length. Less texture means less drag, so across a night's movement hair meets less resistance and less mechanical stress.

Wicking. Cotton fibres are hollow. That structure draws liquid along by capillary action — it's what makes towels work, and it's why a cotton pillowcase pulls moisturiser off your face. Silk filaments have no such channel, so a cream applied at night is more likely to still be on your skin than in your pillowcase.

That's the whole of it. These are properties of the fibre, not effects on your body — we're not going to tell you what your skin will look like in thirty days.

What It Means For Hair

Hair moves more than you think overnight. Every turn drags it across the pillow, and on cotton that means catching — the fabric's texture grips, and the cuticle takes the wear. Over months that shows up as breakage, split ends and morning frizz.

Silk's surface offers far less resistance. Hair slides rather than snags, so the same amount of movement does less damage.

The effect is largest if your hair is curly, textured, colour-treated or heat-styled — anything that's already put stress on the cuticle has less margin for more.

It won't make hair grow, and it won't repair damage already done. It reduces one source of ongoing mechanical wear, which is a smaller claim than most brands make and a more honest one.

Whats Not In It

Silk is a protein fibre — the same family as hair and skin — spun by the silkworm and requiring no synthetic base. Our fabric is certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, which means every component has been tested against limit values for harmful substances, including residues from dyeing and finishing.

That's a narrower claim than "hypoallergenic," and a checkable one. Certificate number SH025 231655, issued by TESTEX.

FAQs

How often should I wash my pillowcase?

Every one to two weeks. Cool machine wash on gentle in a mesh bag, pH-neutral detergent, hang to dry. No bleach, no fabric softener, no tumble dryer, no dry cleaning.

Whats the difference between 22-momme and cheaper silk?

Momme is the weight of the fabric. Most pillowcases are 16 or 19-momme; ours is 22 — around a third heavier. It feels denser and lasts longer through washing. Anything sold as "satin" is usually polyester, which is a weave rather than a fibre.

Will It Slip Off My Pillow?

No — it has a hidden zipper rather than an envelope closure.

Which Colour Should I Choose?

They're identical apart from colour. Natural White and Beige are the most popular; Charcoal hides makeup and hair product best between washes.

What if the pillowcase doesn't work for me?

If for any reason you feel that it isn't working for you or you're simply not vibing it, send us an email to admin@youthfulskinco.com and we'll fix you up with a full refund.
